Blue-Eyed Damsel

Blue-Eyed Damsel

A Bluet Damselfly roosting on a tall stalk of grass facing me straight on and apparently looking me right in my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
Lurking Danger

Lurking Danger

A chance encounter with a Damselfly who had moments before been surprised by a spider lurking in the grass. A reminder of the dangers of an insect's existence. I shot it using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
Hangin' Out

Hangin' Out

A peculiar looking fly who appears to be wearing goggles hung out for a few minutes inside a beautiful yellow flower. I shot this using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
Sex in the City

Sex in the City

I found these mating Ladybugs underneath a yellow flowering plant. The female walked all over, up and down the plant while the male hung on persistently. I shot this using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
King of the Cone Flower

King of the Cone Flower

I found this orange spider pausing inside the middle of a yet-to-bloom Echinacea (cone flower) plant. I shot this using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
Skylight Spider

Skylight Spider

I photographed this spider I found in my deck's skylight for over 3 months, including her delivery and nest building in the Fall. I also was able to capture her offspring as they emerged from the nest in the following Spring. I shot this using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
Whatever it Takes

Whatever it Takes

I found this bumble bee contorting itself in order to reach the pollen of the purple flower. I shot this using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
Merry-Go-Round

Merry-Go-Round

One of those surprises, I happened upon this beetle hanging on for dear life onto a dislodged flower part suspended by a spider's strand and twirling in the wind. I shot this using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
Damsel Perch

Damsel Perch

A Bluet Damselfly perched on a stalk of grass and apparently watching me. I shot this using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
Lying in Wait

Lying in Wait

A predatory Crab Spider hiding beneath the flower petals waiting for a unsuspecting bee or fly to stop by. I shot this using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
Bubble Boy

Bubble Boy

This fly on a flower petal blew bubble after bubble after bubble unperturbed by my Tamron 90mm macro lens in its face.
Will Hover for Food

Will Hover for Food

A Hoverfly hoving just long enough to freeze its motion from above a patch of purple flowers. This was shot handheld using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
Twin Bugs of Different Mothers

Twin Bugs of Different Mothers

Chance symmetry of two Ladybugs crawling along a stalk of grass. I shot this with my camera propped against a walking stick and using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.
The Eyes Have It

The Eyes Have It

A fly who perched on leaf tip for over 12 hours affording me the opportunity to shoot from multiple angles. I shot this using my Tamron 90mm macro lens.

Insects and spiders out number humans millions to one, yet most of us go about our business with little awareness of them except when they intrude on our space. Take a look at them up close and you'll find beauty, drama, danger, and a symbiosis with the plants that feed, harbor, and hide them. This exhibit captures a magnified slice of a "bugs life" thanks in large part to my Tamron 90mm macro lens and frankly, just looking down.
