Cardiff Bay Barrage Looking east

Cardiff Bay Barrage Looking east

The construction of the barrage was one of the largest engineering projects in Europe. Completed in 1999, it has created a 500 acre freshwater lake with 8 miles of waterfront and it is hoped it will stimulate the future development of the Bay as a tourist and leisure destination. Cardiff has been named as one of the top 10 cities in Europe. Over 319,700 friendly people live here and call it home. http://www.assembly.wales/Committee%20Documents/Report%2001-01%20The%20Cardiff%20Bay%20Barage-15022001-8584/3a8bc66c0000ad660000208e00000000-English.pdf

Aesthetics in Engineering Design

by Corixus

Engineers are responsible for most of the fabricated world around us and thus, have a responsibility to create products that are beautiful as well as functional. It should be the goal of any engineering designer to create designs that look as good twenty years from now as they do today. It is necessary to consider the aesthetics of a design during the design phase in order to create truly superb designs. However, engineers must also exercise caution. Engineers love to use simple formulas to solve problems, but there is no simple formula that will guarantee aesthetic beauty. An awareness of some basic aesthetic concepts and recognition of them in the designs of others can help the designer create beautiful products. https://itll.colorado.edu/images/uploads/courses_workshops/geen1400/textbook/ch08aesthetics_in_engineering_design.pdf
